PSACyber Bullying
Thousands of adolescents are cyberbullied at least once a day, everyday. What young people don't understand is that majority of teenagers take their lives because of it. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people. Cyber bullying could all start with just a small joke but could lead to a big impact. Over half of adolescents and teens have been bullied online and about the same number have engaged in cyberbullying. A third of 10 through 18 year olds have been bullied on social media and more than one in three young people have experienced threats online. Cyber bullying should be stopped, kids could be really cruel and have no idea how much it affects them. It has gone out of control, it has to come to a stop! Cyber bullying should be taken seriously, there has been over 4,400 deaths per year, 100 attempts and 14 percent have considered suicide. Don't let this be you, and don't be the bully. Rethink before you type. |
Obstacle To Success
“When you know what you want, and want it bad enough, you will find a way to get it.” Jim Rohn My name is Brenda Zarate, I’m eighteen years old and I was born in Fresno but raised in Lindsay California. I come from a family of six; I have two older sisters and one younger sister. I haven't always lived in Lindsay California; when I was younger I used to live in Chicago, Illinois. I attended Kindergarten there and then moved back to Lindsay California. Ever since I was younger I have always wanted to be an architect. As I grew older Math has become my weakest area and I no longer feel like architecture interests me. I now have been drawn to psychology, psychology is fascinating because it's the study of the mind and behavior; you get to learn how people function. Where I plan on attending school to learn about psychology is Fresno State, home of the bulldogs. The reason I chose Fresno State is because not only does it offer what I want to learn about but it’s also an hour away from home. As of right now my goal before graduating is a little bit different from other peers due to slacking off my first few years of high school; I am now facing the consequences and determined to clean up my act. CSU’s look for students that have finished Algebra 2 and chemistry and I don't have either. I was enrolled in chemistry in the beginning of the semester but was pulled out because I have not completed Geometry. I am currently double blocking my math class so I can finish Geometry my first semester and finish Algebra 2 my second semester. During my second semester I will be attending Porterville Community College to finish chemistry so that I will graduate with college requirements. My expectations for my future are set pretty high but it isn't impossible. I am dedicated to achieve my goal not just for myself but to make my family proud. My older siblings attended colleges but didn't graduate. I would like to be the first to come home with a college degree. I’m driven to meet my goals and know I’ll achieve them. The person who pushes me to reach my goals is my dad. My dad believes in me and he will invest any time or money to help me reach my dreams. I admire my dad because he has done his very best to raise my sisters and I. My dad did not go to college, he stopped going to school up to the tenth grade and started working. Right now he’s working as a truck driver at Ruan. He had to go to truck driving school to receive his license and has been working as a truck driver for eight years now. My dad makes a decent amount of salary/income and I look up to him for never giving up. I know if he would of finished school he wouldn't have to be working night shift. I hardly see my dad because of his work, and that is why I want to go to school so I don't have to be in the position he’s in. I want to earn a good amount of living so I can repay my parents for everything they’ve done for me. |
